ewa-marine U-A
Underwater housing for compact, consumer SLR cameras
order code: U-A
The U-A is designed to fit almost all common SLR cameras on the market today, irrespective of the manufacturer or model. Like the Sony A7, Fuji XT-1 and Canon Rebel cameras. With this housing, a whole new world of applications opens up for your standard SLR camera: Inside the housing you can now take the camera safely canoeing, snorkeling or even diving, up to a depth of 20 m / 60 ft.
The U-A SLR underwater housing can be used on small boats, in the surf, while swimming, snorkeling or diving. It`s easy to operate the camera as its various components and buttons can be operated through the PVC.
As off 2019, our U-A is now shipped with the new ewa-marine safety-wrist-strap. Simply slip your hand through the loop at the bottom and, if the camera accidentally falls out of your hand, the loop automatically locks and secures the underwater case to your wrist. And yet it is easy and quick to open, when required, with the integrated buckle.
If the optional BF1 lead weight is inserted into the housing, underneath the camera, it becomes even easier to reach the maximum depth. Experienced photographers have confirmed, that the auto focus and flash both continue to function perfectly. As you descend, the air is pressed into the camera. Due to this, the pressure inside the housing will remain the same as the surrounding water pressure. (this is the reason why ewa-marine housings are so safe to use: implosions are impossible) Due to this, we have to start the dive with a suitable amount of air inside the housing. The foam pads supplied with the housing are part of this air "reservoir" and additional air should also be blown into the housing, via the valve at the rear, to ensure that the maximum potential volume is being utilized.
This is only one of a range of underwater SLR housings by ewa-marine.

If you are using a lens with 82mm, 77mm or 72mm filter diameter size, then you would have to get our U-A100. Basically the same housing, the only difference being the larger front port and adapters. [click to read more...]
The U-A is a practical, "all-round" housing that is primarily intended the be used while swimming, snorkeling and other, general water sports. While it can also be used for scuba diving, for lack of a strong, external strobe, and because the camera's small, built in flash is to close to the lens, resulting in small, suspended particles in the water showing as "snowflakes" in the picture, i.e. can not be used in most applications, the U-A is limited to 20m / 60ft. A depth where you also can still take pictures with ambient, natural light. Since underwater photography generally requires the use of wide angle or macro lenses and thus shorter lenses, the lens tubes on the housing is kept rather short.
The U-A is also our most cost-effective dSLR underwater housing in the ewa-marine SLR range.
Depending on your application but the following products offer a better solution:
- U-AX: SLR with top mounted strobe for up to to 20m / 60ft dive depth. Offers better better illumination of the subject under poor light condition.
- U AXP: SLR with top mounted strobe and up to to 50m / 150ft dive depth. Primarily for for scuba diving.
- U-AZ: For outdoor photography while canoeing or kayaking with long zoom lenses
Designed specifically for consumer style digital dSLR, large mirrorless system-camera as well as the "old style" analog 35mm SLR cameras, the ewa-marine U-A underwater housing is manufactured from our special, double laminated PVC and has an integrated, optically neutral flat glass as a front port. With this housing you will receive a set of adapters that fit the filter threads of the most popular lenses on the market today. By means of this adapter the camera is then docked into the housings front port, ensuring that the lens remains parallel and centered behind the front of the lens. Just as if it were a clear, neutral optical filter.
As many cameras in this category have a built in, pop-up flash we have added a "roof" to accommodate it in the housing. To fix the right hand near the shutter release, the housing has an adjustable wrist strap and a "Finger" to position the index finger right on the trigger.
Our SLR housings are sold with a foam padding that fits underneath the camera, inside the housing. This sponge has to be removed if you want to use your camera with a battery grip, or to make space for the tripod connector that is available as an optional extra. (Please keep in mind that, as a result, cameras like the Nikon D4 or Canon 1DX, that basically include a fixed "battery grip" as part of their design, can not be used inside the housing that has been fitted with a tripod connector.)
It has a pair of non-corrosive and seawater resistant clamping rails which fit together for perfect sealing. They tighten by means of three screw knobs. There is also the practical, adjustable carry strap on the clamping rail.
It is supplied in a handy yellow storage and carrying case.
